No Time For Flowers

The piece is 16" x 20" overall. It is being painted in acrylics on a 1/8" thick Masonite, Ampersand "Claybord." It has a white, slightly textured Gesso covered clay surface. It says that it is pH Neutral and acid-free. Fantastic surface to work on. This is what I did my painting of "Alan Baker As Cody" on. One other advantage of the Masonite "Claybord" over canvas is that is very durable and a lot easier and cheaper to ship.

The painting is titled "No Time For Flowers." You will see the reason for the title shortly.

This second .jpg is the "lodge-pole pines" and distant hills added in to the background. Probably another 4-5 hours. Since back in September, the painting has been laying on my drawing desk looking pretty much as it appears here.

Over the Christmas holiday, I finally figured it "wasn't going to do itself." I popped four Advils and I picked up my brush and started. Here is the buffalo detailed in. I know that I have been told that I do have some strange techniques. Yes I do. I work pretty much in pieces. I try to "finish off" the areas as I go, but I am a "realist" in another sense. I do go back in and re-work all the areas after I see the piece as a whole. There will be many changes to what you see here. The buffalo added another 14-15 hours to the total.
I have roughed in the grass with the base greens. Olive green in the background running to the foreground which has more brilliant greens. Another hour or two.

Maybe you can now guess what goes into those "white holes" in the tall grass.

I have laid down another heavier covering of green on the grassy areas. More detail to come.
I have painted in what will eventually be the dark areas between the blades of grass and flowers. I also went into the pine trees behind and did some more detailing.

Here are four "zoom-ins" so everyone can take a closer look.
